Bring your kids for a unforgettable experience to this biggest aquarium in Croatia
The biggest and most equipped aquarium in Croatia. Its location, an old Astro-Hungarian fort, which was built in 1886, is what gives this aquarium special charm. It is situated on the Verudela peninsula. In the year 2002, the fort began its transformation towards an aquarium.
It represents a unique and special bond beetwen an old fortification arhitecture and modern maritime technology. The fort itself maintaned almost all the initial charasteristics, which makes it an important part of the cultural heritage of the city of Pula.
The aquarium is extending on nearly 2500 square meters, hosting more than 250 different marine species from Adriatic, as well as various tropical and freshwater fish from Croatian rivers and lakes, which live in over 100 pools and several terariums and paludariums. The most popular inhabitants of the aquarium are jellyfish, seahorses, and turtles.
With its diverse exhibitions and display of many endangered species, the aquarium atracts big audiences and creates a unique experience. One of the mission of the aquarium is to raise an awarness about sealife and bad impact that modern society has on it. The main activity of that department is Marine Turtle Rescue Center.
